Gundogs


Retrievers, Spaniels, Setters & Multi- functioning hunting, pointing and retrieving breeds!

Originally bred to flush out or retrieve game. Alert, active and intelligent. Generally placid, good natured dogs. They make good family pets.

Also good for Service Positions as Disabled Dogs and Drug Sniffers etc. Labrador Retrievers, English Springer Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels are the most popular breeds in this group from Kennel Club registrations.


Pastoral Group

German Shepherd, Border Collie, Corgi and Shetland Sheepdog.

Classed as Herding dogs originally bred to work with cattle, sheep, reindeer and similar animals. These are keenly intelligent and active dogs. They have boundless energy and need regular mental/physical stimulation to keep them contented.


Working

Boxers, Siberian Husky, Bernese Mountain Dog, Bullmastiff and Doberman Pinscher.

Skilled as working breeds. Quick to learn, robust, intelligent and headstrong. Large powerful dogs. Unsuitable for Novice owners. Can be difficult to handle in inexperienced hands.


Hounds


Beagles, Whipet, Bloodhounds, Foxhounds and Greyhounds.

All hounds were originally bred for hunting. Hence they have a very strong sense of smell and sight. They are very vocal dogs. Also friendly, patient with children, exuberant and dependable. They are built for stamina, therefore some need more exercise than others in the group. Greyhound and Whippets require less exercise.


Toys


Chihuahua, Pug, Yorkshire Terrier, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Toy Poodle.

Loyal, intelligent, great at learning new tricks and excel at obedience. Very playful, but not always happy with small children and only require very short rather than long walks.



Terriers


Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Border Terrier, Airedale Terrier and West Highland Terrier.

Terriers were originally bred to hunt vermin, rodents and foxes. Although now well established family pet. They are sometimes hard to control, have high energy and are playful dogs. Low maintenance regarding coat care, loyal and quite vocal.


Utility


Shih Tzu, Miniature Schnauzer, Dalmation, French Bulldog, Bulldog and Lhasa Apso.

This group includes miscellaneous breeds. Most Utility breeds have been selectively bred to perform a specific function not included in the working and sporting categories.


Hybrid Dogs


Cockapoo, Goldendoodle, Labradoodle, Jackapoo.

They are a mix of two pure bred dogs and are created through controlled cross breeding. The main purpose of developing hybrid dogs is for them to inherit the positive traits of both their parent breeds. They are known for their gentle disposition and adaptability. Also popular for their sweet nature. They are very good family companions, very sociable and may experience separation anxiety if left alone for long periods. Also may have minimal to high exercise needs.
